Maximilian Kolbe – a real polish hero
During the Nazi occupation of Poland a catholic priest Maximilian Kolbe was offering a hiding place for the Polish and Jewish refugees.
In 1941 he was arrested by Gestapo for hiding Jewish people.
But that’s not why he is a hero.

Only 5 months after his arrest a group of prisoners escaped from the camp.
The Deputy Commander of Auschwitz
ordered 10 men to be starved to death.
When one of the selected men Franciszek Gajowniczek cried: “My wife! My children!”, father Kolbe volunteered to go instead of him.
